Lola Faturoti is a veteran in fashion industry. The Nigerian-born fashion designer living in New York has great expertise in the industry and is well-known both locally and internationally. Faturoti is from Ondo State, she attended university in London before relocating to New York in the early 90s. Her interest in fashion began when she was a youngster, she was always seen assisting her grandmother who was also a fashion designer. According to her "My grandmother was a fashion designer, and she inspired me to pursue a career in the industry. She created Nigerian traditional clothing, that was my first exposure to fashion which I despised since I preferred to be out playing rather than picking out seams!"
Lola faturoti clears the air that her mother had a big influence on her own style. “My mother spent a lot of time in London and New York. She bought me a lot of stuff, and I started dressing differently as a result. "I believe that was my first encounter to trying to stand out via my attire," Faturoti adds.
Faturoti kept practicing what she leant from her grandmother until when she made her own design when she came to prominence in New York after designing a garment to commemorate Barack Obama's election as President of the United States. "Oluwa gba President Barack Obama," which means "God Bless President Barack Obama," was written boldly on the garment.

She worked at the Charivari Boutique in New York, where the company's president, Barbara Weiser saw her talent and love for distinctive clothes and assisted her in launching her first fashion collection. Her love for African fashion is undeniable. "For me, everything starts with the design and fabric, which typically has some shine," Faturoti exclaims. Her profound African origins, as well as her broad global experience from living and working in New York and Milan, have all contributed to her international success.
